Sinopsis: 1943. El bombardero K-9 (King Nine) se ha estrellado en un remoto lugar de África. Su piloto, el Capitán James Embry, despierta de su inconsciencia para encontrarse el panorama desolador del desierto y los restos del avión. Pero, ¿dónde están el resto de tripulantes?

Opening Narration: This is Africa, 1943. War spits out its violence overhead and the sandy graveyard swallows it up. Her name is King Nine, B-25, medium bomber, Twelfth Air Force. On a hot, still morning she took off from Tunisia to bomb the southern tip of Italy. An errant piece of flak tore a hole in a wing tank and, like a wounded bird, this is where she landed, not to return on this day, or any other day.

Closing Narration: Enigma buried in the sand, a question mark with broken wings that lies in silent grace as a marker in a desert shrine. Odd how the real consorts with the shadows, how the present fuses with the past. How does it happen? The question is on file in the silent desert. And the answer? The answer is waiting for us in the Twilight Zone.


Curiosidades:

- Este es el primer episodio en el que aparece Rod Serling durante su monólogo introductorio.

- Episodio inspirado en el suceso real del bombardero B-24, que perdió el rumbo durante una misión y se estrelló en el desierto. La tripulación del avión no fue encontrada hasta 15 años después. Partes del artefacto fueron recuperadas y utilizadas en otros aviones. Estos aviones fueron perdidos más adelante en accidentes, haciendo que se crease una leyenda negra sobre la maldición del B-24.
